I’ve had a violin in my hands since I was a really little kid, and it is like a lifelong, steadfast, friend to me.
My well-worn, mid century Juzek Master Art was indeed the first full-size violin I was big enough to hold, and it has developed a rich and brilliant tone with many years of relentless use. A violin is meant to be played with passion and tenderness, and I got an early start, with a great Latvian professor that could really make the thing sing. It doesn’t matter what else you do on a violin if you don’t have a beautiful sound, and I am told that I do.
As with my guitar playing, my violin performances can freely migrate between musical idioms; melding classical, jazz, and popular influences. Over the years I’ve also integrated a technique of adding many harmony notes to support my melody lines, which makes for a very full-sounding solo violin performance.
